It’s been just days since Marilyn Ramos was crowned Miss South Africa 2012 at a glitzy ceremony at the Sun City Superbowl and she said it hasn’t sunk in yet. The 21-year-old Ramos, from Klerksdorp, beat off the strong challenges of two Western Cape candidates, Simone de Kock and Charné King.
During her reign she will be assisted by KwaZulu-Natal-based Pearl Nxele who was crowned the second princess and Stacey Webb from Western Cape, the first runner-up. Ramos was a favourite among the crowd in attendance, including a few delegates from the North West government. Speaking to journalists at her media breakfast, she said: “It only dawned on me two minutes ago that everyone who is here came for Miss South Africa and that’s me.
“I still can’t believe that I made it through every round, not to mention winning the pageant. “It’s been a trying but interesting journey for me and the competition was so intense that I couldn’t even predict who was going to be in the top five.” Ramos said she did not have a charity she was supporting at the moment but she was working closely with the M-Net Cares initiative and Sun International to find a suitable charity she would work with.
